Connecting Your Stripe Account

Walk through Stripe Connect onboarding to link your nonprofit's Stripe account and start accepting donations.

Overview

Heritage Web uses Stripe Connect to process donations. You'll either connect an existing Stripe account or create a new one during onboarding. Stripe handles all payment security, compliance, and fund transfers β€” Heritage Web never has access to your donation funds.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Navigate to the Donations Tab

Go to Dashboard β†’ Edit Organization β†’ Donations tab.

If you meet the eligibility requirements, you'll see the donation setup options.

Step 2: Click "Connect Stripe Account"

Click the Connect Stripe Account button. You'll be redirected to Stripe's secure onboarding page.

Step 3: Complete Stripe Onboarding

On Stripe's page, you'll either:

Sign in to your existing Stripe account and authorize the connection, or

Create a new Stripe account by providing your organization's details, bank account information, and identity verification.

Stripe may ask for your EIN, business address, and a representative's identification. This is Stripe's standard verification process.

Step 4: Return to Heritage Web

After completing Stripe onboarding, you'll be redirected back to your Heritage Web dashboard. Your Donations tab will show your Stripe account as Connected.

You'll also receive a confirmation email that your Stripe account has been linked.

Important Notes

Use your organization's Stripe account. Connect the Stripe account owned by your nonprofit, not a personal account. This ensures donations are deposited into the correct bank account.

Stripe verification may take time. If Stripe needs additional documentation to verify your organization, your onboarding may not complete immediately. You can return to finish it later from the Donations tab.

One Stripe account per organization. Each Organization listing connects to one Stripe account. If you manage multiple Organization listings, each needs its own Stripe connection.

Heritage Web never accesses your funds. Donations are processed as Direct Charges on your connected Stripe account. Heritage Web facilitates the payment session but never holds or touches the funds.

FAQs

Do I need an existing Stripe account?

No. You can create a new Stripe account during the onboarding process. It's free to create.

What if I get stuck during Stripe onboarding?

You can return to the Donations tab later and resume where you left off. If Stripe requires additional verification documents, they'll email you directly.

Can I change which Stripe account is connected?

Yes. You can disconnect your current Stripe account and connect a different one. However, disconnecting requires going through the approval process again. See "Hiding Donations vs. Disconnecting Stripe" for details.
