Skills: Display-Only Keywords
Quick Answer
Skills are free-form keyword tags that appear on your public listing to help visitors quickly understand your expertise. Important: Skills are for display only and do not affect which leads you receive. To control lead matching, use the Industries section instead.
Overview
The Skills section lets you add any keywords that describe your capabilities—like "Immigration Law," "Contract Negotiation," or "Bilingual Spanish." These tags display on your listing and may help with search visibility, but they do not influence Heritage Web's lead matching system.
This is different from Industries, which directly controls which referral leads you're matched with. Many users assume adding skills will generate more leads—it won't. Think of Skills as a display feature for visitors, and Industries as the matching filter for leads.

FAQs
Why am I not getting leads for a skill I added? Skills don't affect lead matching. You need to add that service in the Industries section to receive related leads.
What's the difference between Skills and Industries? Industries controls lead matching—it determines which referrals you receive. Skills is display-only—it helps visitors understand your expertise but doesn't affect leads.
Should I add the same things to both Skills and Industries? Yes, for consistency. Add your services in Industries (for matching) and also add them as Skills (for display). They serve different purposes.
Is there a limit to how many skills I can add? No hard limit, but we recommend 10-20 focused, relevant skills. Too many can clutter your listing.
Can visitors search by skills? Skills may improve general discoverability, but Heritage Web's lead matching system uses Industries, not Skills.
