Quick Answer

Job listings have two location concepts: Workplace Location (where the job is performed) and Headquarters Location (where your company is based). These can be the same or different. Workplace Location appears in Position Details; Headquarters appears in the Hiring Organization section.

Overview

Companies often have jobs in different cities than their headquarters. A San Francisco-based tech company might hire for positions in Austin. A national law firm headquartered in New York might have roles in Los Angeles. Heritage Web captures both locations so candidates understand exactly where they'd work and who they'd work for.

Step-by-Step: Setting Both Locations

Workplace Location (Position Details)

  1. Navigate to Job Details tab.

  2. Find Position Details section.

  3. Set Workplace Type (In-Person or Hybrid).

  4. Complete Workplace Location:

    • Select Country

    • Select State

    • Enter City

Headquarters Location (Hiring Organization)

  1. Stay on Job Details tab.

  2. Find Hiring Organization section.

  3. Complete Parent Organization Headquarters Location:

    • Street Address (optional)

    • Select Country

    • Select State

    • Enter City

    • Enter Zip Code

Why Both Locations Matter

For Candidates:

  • Workplace Location tells them where they'll commute or relocate to

  • Headquarters tells them about the company's origin and scale

For Publication Placement:

  • Both can influence where your job appears in the Heritage Web network

  • Jobs may appear on regional publications based on workplace location

For Credibility:

  • Headquarters location helps candidates research your company

  • Establishes your organization as a legitimate, locatable entity

Important Notes

  • Hiring Organization is always required—including headquarters location.

  • Workplace Location is conditional—only required for In-Person or Hybrid jobs.

  • ZIP code is only in Headquarters—Workplace Location captures city-level only.

  • They can be identical—if the job is at headquarters, enter the same city in both.

  • Street address is optional for Headquarters—but Country, State, City, and ZIP are required.

FAQs

Why do I need to enter location twice?

They serve different purposes. Candidates want to know both where they'll work and where the company is based—these are often different.

What if the job is at headquarters?

Enter the same city in both Workplace Location and Headquarters. They'll show the same location, which makes sense when the job is at the main office.

Why does Headquarters need a ZIP code but Workplace doesn't?

Headquarters serves as company verification—the full address helps establish legitimacy. Workplace location just needs city-level context for candidates.

Can Workplace Location and Headquarters be in different countries?

Yes. A U.S.-headquartered company could hire for a role in Canada, or vice versa. Enter each location accurately.

What if we don't have a physical headquarters?

Enter your registered business address or primary administrative location. All Hiring Organization fields are required for job listings.

Does Workplace Location affect which candidates find my job?

It can influence publication placement. Jobs are placed on community publications based primarily on language requirements and geographic relevance.
