Quick Answer

The Role Highlight (Tagline) is an optional field that appears below your job title, giving candidates a quick preview of what makes your opportunity special. A strong tagline can increase clicks on your listing by highlighting growth potential, company culture, or unique benefits.

Overview

Your job listing competes with many others for candidate attention. The Tagline field gives you a brief opportunity to differentiate your role before candidates even read the full description. Think of it as your job's elevator pitch—a single line that answers "Why should I apply here?"

While optional, a well-crafted tagline significantly improves engagement with your listing. It appears prominently in search results and listing previews across Heritage Web's publication network.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Access the Tagline Field

  1. Log into your Heritage Web dashboard.

  2. Click My Jobs in the left navigation.

  3. Select the job you want to edit.

  4. Click the Title & Overview tab (second tab).

  5. Find the Tagline field below the Job Title field.

Step 2: Identify Your Key Differentiator

Before writing, consider what makes this opportunity stand out:

Category

What to Highlight

Growth

Career advancement, learning opportunities, mentorship

Culture

Team environment, work-life balance, company values

Impact

Meaningful work, community connection, mission-driven

Benefits

Competitive compensation, unique perks, flexibility

Opportunity

New team, expansion, innovative projects

Step 3: Write Your Tagline

Keep it brief: Aim for under 100 characters so it displays fully across all platforms.

Effective tagline examples:

  • "Join our growing immigration practice serving the Iranian community"

  • "Make an impact at Houston's leading nonprofit"

  • "Remote-friendly role with excellent work-life balance"

  • "Build your career at a rapidly expanding law firm"

  • "Help families navigate the immigration process"

  • "Competitive salary with partnership track"

Avoid:

  • Generic phrases like "Great opportunity!" or "We're hiring!"

  • Repeating information from the job title

  • Salary figures (use the Compensation field instead)

  • Excessive punctuation or ALL CAPS

  • Claims you can't support

Step 4: Save Your Changes

  1. Review your tagline—does it make someone want to learn more?

  2. Click Publish Draft to save your changes.

Important Notes

  • The Tagline is optional but recommended—it improves listing engagement.

  • Keep it under 100 characters for consistent display across publications.

  • You can customize taglines for different language versions of your listing.

  • Taglines should be accurate and professional—misleading content may be rejected.

FAQs

Is the Tagline required?

No, it's optional. However, listings with taglines typically get more engagement. Even a simple tagline is better than leaving it blank.

What's the difference between the Tagline and the Description?

The Tagline is a single line that appears in previews and search results—it's designed to attract clicks. The Description is your full job posting with all the details candidates need to apply.

Should I include the company name in the tagline?

Generally no—company information is already visible from the Hiring Organization section. Use the tagline to highlight what makes the role itself attractive.

Can I use the same tagline for multiple job listings?

You can, but customized taglines perform better. Each role has unique selling points—highlight what's special about that specific position.

What if I can't think of a differentiator?

Consider: Why would someone want this job over a similar role elsewhere? Growth opportunities, team culture, mission, flexibility, and benefits are all valid angles. If you're struggling, ask current employees what they like about working there.

Can I include emojis?

It's best to keep taglines professional and avoid emojis. They may not display consistently and can appear unprofessional in some contexts.

How does the tagline appear on community publications?

The tagline displays the same way across all publications. If you create language-specific versions of your listing, you can customize the tagline for each language.
